Welcome to Grand Pré!
We live in a beautifully restored farmhouse tucked away in a quiet valley
of the Quercy Blanc, an unspoilt and beautiful part of Tarn et Garonne in
the South West of France. The area is called the 'Quercy Blanc' from 'quercus'
the Latin for an oak and 'Blanc' from the white stone from which the houses
are built. It is an area of space and tranquillity.
Each year our family shares this idyllic spot with a few holidaymakers who
rent one of our three cottages. Two have been beautifully converted from part
of the interior of the huge old barn. The other is a detached stone cottage
situated in the courtyard.
Location:
Above us is the pretty flower filled hilltop village of Roquecor,
with a shop that sells fresh bread every morning and almost everything else. There is
a small cafe-restaurant & bar and every Sunday morning a busy market. Closeby
are Montcuq and Montaigu de Quercy, both attractive villages with excellent
supermarkets offering fresh seasonal foods. The area features the lovely River
Lot, mile after mile of vineyards, fields of sunflowers, chateaux, bastides,
and less than an hour away, several larger towns with more sophisticated shops
and restaurants. Discover a prehistoric cave, sample truffles and foie gras, or make a wine tour from any of the two hundred Cahors vineyards in
the appellation. Two hours away is the medieval city of Carcasonne
and the Pyrénées.
Local activities:
include golf, wine-tasting, swimming lakes, horseback riding, cycling, boules,
wind-surfing, canoeing, tennis and fishing.
